Introducing…
A collaboration of our timeless Rugby shirt designed with Matt Hranek, founder of the Wm Brown Project
When we spoke with Matt Hranek about our rugby shirt, he kindly said it was “the perfect rugby”, so we simply had to ask him to design one with us!
Our inspiration was a shared love of the 80's J Crew sports aesthetic… the defining campaigns that inspired a generation on and off the pitch. We then set about designing the finer details for our perfect rugby together - the exact shade of cobalt blue and the width of the stripe; the crisp white collar; the placement and feel of the rubber buttons and of course, a perfect fit.
“Though I have never played the sport I’ve always loved the kit", says Matt. “Rugby shirts with white collars and white rubber buttons has always been a staple of any good preppy wardrobe. Now I wear them under blazers and layered with polos or cotton roll necks like my younger 80s self. This Cobalt wide blue stripe nods to my love of the Bretagne worn to the beach on a cool morning or evening or (if you are lucky) on a friend’s boat!”
Meet the Rugby Shirt
The Wm Brown brand is one we have long admired and the vision and style of its founder, the uber chic Matt Hranek. What started as a blog, then a print magazine has become a movement - a global collective of style seekers that spans the print magazine, a weekly newsletter, products, collaborations and more.
In Matt's words, “Wm Brown has always been an unpredictable collection of many types of men. Its ideology finds its inspiration from the men in my life—my father, my grandfathers, the men I admired growing up, and friends—confident, thoughtful men who devour life and all its subtleties. Men who have learned to be comfortable in their skin, found their uniform and purpose, and set that example for other generations. Call me old fashioned for many reasons: for loving the printed page, slow deliberate craft, analog life, the solitude of the woods, mechanical things, a simple meal, a solid drink, and a good cigar. I am publishing Wm Brown seasonally. I’ve thought for sometime about how we, as men, approach the details of the seasons so differently: how we dress, what we eat and drink, what we drive, how we travel, perhaps even what watch we wear.”
We are honoured to collaborate with Matt and Wm Brown with this limited edition rugby shirt which we hope you love as much as do…

Tell us about the evolution of Wm Brown…
Wm Brown start as a blog - The William Brown Project and then evolved into my fantasy magazine covering all the subject that I personally love under one umbrella.
What is the origin of the name?
It gets its name from our road and farm in upstate NY - Wm Brown Rd/ William Brown Farm. The place where this lifestyle idea all started and evolved…
It is what I know! Also i am a romantic about print magazines..They don’t need a charge, they can take a spilled drink or dousing at the pool and are still readable. I also make an effort for the content to be reasonably evergreen so do not put these on the recycler keep them forever.
What can we expect with your weekly Wm Brown newsletter?
The newsletter is the home for more well “newsy” items and intel…quick hits, profiles and interviews that may have a season or time sensitivity or that can live short form with less visuals
What are your summer plans?
Dark tan, bbq, cold beer, near a body of water
What was your last meal?
Last night was smashed boiled, grilled potatoes on the plancha - topped with a bit of creme fraiche, a massive dollop of Petrossian trout caviar and some chopped chive. There was a side salad of cucumber with dill and a very tall gin martini with a twist
What are you excited about now?
Heading upstate to the farm for a bit, dismantling the Brooklyn life and spending a bit more time in the Eurozone! There is also a new Wm Brown website in the works...
